Domain Management

  • If I host your website, domain management is included in the monthly charge.

A domain name is proprietary. You own it. If you ever want to sell it for more money, you can. I usually ask my clients to buy their own domain name, but I do make exceptions.

Sometimes clients buy two or three domain names because of a special. That's OK. You can use the same website template on all three domains or three different ones.

The domain name has annual registration charge of about $35.

If I host your website, I will notify you when your domain needs to be renewed and make sure you are listed as the domain administrator.

Tips

I do have some advice on choosing your domain name.

If possible, make it brief. A website business email could look like this: me@mydomainnameisveryveryverylongiapologize.com.

Use a keyword in it. For example, www.JanesBakery.com where "bakery" is the keyword used when someone searches for a service you offer over the internet.

If you have a new business and don't know if it will make it, register for one year. If you are established, buy multiple years because the discounts get bigger with more years purchased.

Website Hosting

  • I have two choices for website hosting. One is a very competitive flat rate annual hosting fee of $120. This option is your no frills "I have to pay Jill" for changes, updates, and advice. The second option is $25 a month, which is billed in advance and quarterly. Small changes and updates are included and all advice is free. If you have a large change or update, and large means time consuming, then I charge $25 an hour.

You get up to 10 emails addresses with either option. If you choose the flat rate annual hosting, there will be a minumum set up fee of $25 for each email address created.

Contracts. Having a managed website creates a long term relationship. I have "Happy Contracts." As long as we are both happy, then let the relationship go on. If you or I become unhappy, I will give you your website on a CD and give you thirty days to find a new company to manage or host your website. Deal?

Server Data

I have been partnering with Bluehost for almost ten years now. They have exceptional customer service and very reliable uptime.

Search Engine Optimization

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) requires work in many areas. Most of the following service are included in the website design, as well as the monthly hosting & management fee. For those who choose the annual flat rate hosting fee, some of the following items will be charged at $25 an hour.

First, the website design must be responsive to mobile devices. This I do and is included in the cost of website design.

Second, the online hosting folder must have sitemaps of several different varieties. This I do and is included in the monthly hosting and management fee.

Third, search engines must be told your domain name is on the internet. This I do and is included in the monthly hosting and management fee.

Fourth, there should only be 20 keywords and those words should be found in the same page the keywords are listed. This I do and is included in the cost of website design.

Fifth, reciprocal linking with associated websites helps your business. For example, the Better Business Bureau. We do this together and is included in the monthly hosting and management fee.

Sixth, frequent updates to your website is helpful. Change a little something on several pages every week or at least once a month. We do this together and is included in the monthly hosting and management fee.

Seventh, listing your business and domain name on listing sites, many of which are free, helps. We do this together and is included in the monthly hosting and management fee.

Although my list above is incomplete, these are the best for success.

My Thoughts

Not too long ago, SEO was an easy thing to do.

With the phenomenal proliferation of mobile devices, the rules have changed. Search Engine companies are demanding more and more from website developers to increase the speed of search engine results on mobile devices.

Having a mobile freindly website isn't a just a nice thing to have anymore, it is a requirement.

Google is a market leader and is a search engine. I had one customer who was very upset his company did not pop up as the first result in a Google search. Pretend your website sells pretzels. There could be 1,000 websites selling pretzels. They can't all be first in line.

You can pay Google for a sponsored result and appear at or close to the top of results, although there are several details to consider. For example, the cost increases with the popularity of the one or two keywords you choose. After a number, say five to ten, customers click on your website link, you will not appear at the top of the results until the next day. It is a daily task that is more cost effective for the website owners to pursue with Google.

Mass Marketing Emails

  • Mass Marketing Emails are not for every business. Retail sales, restaurants and service type businesses would benefit the most. For example, a manufacturer with a few customers or a goverment vendor would not benefit from this type of sales advertisement.

I have been successfully sending mass marketing emails for one of my clientele. They own a cajun restaurant and usually send out an email once a week. They get good results and at a reasonable cost. When I started sending emails for them eight years ago, they had less than a thousand email addressees. Today, they have over 6,000.

I charge $200 to set up the service through Dadamail and use Amazon servers for delivery. I charge $25 per email up to the first 1,000 addressees on your mailing list. The cost increases $25 for each 2,000 addressees added to your mailing list.

You gather the email addresses and enter them into your list. You will have a subscription form on your website.

You receive a copy of every email reply. I do not respond to these emails. You will also receive failed email deliveries. I maintain the list by removing the email addresses from the failed deliveries. I will send you a consolidated list of failed addresses after each mailing in case you have a typo and wish to re-enter the address into your mailing list.

My advice on the content of the marketing email is to keep it simple. I advise no pictures and only one link to your website because most spam software will not allow these items anyways. Big red Xes appear where they photos should be and is unattractive. Use paragraph structure, decorative font, and logo colors only. Many people will not receive this either because they have set their email software to receive plain text messages only.

Sales! Sales! Sales!

Businesses in high tourism areas would benefit from building relationships local clientele and sales through mass marketing emails during the off season.

Below is a list of businesses that would benefit from mass marketing emails.

  • Restaurants
  • Retail Stores
  • Vacation Rentals
  • Carpet Cleaners
  • Service Companies
  • Golf Courses
  • Bike & Scooter Rentals
  • Canoe Rentals
  • Fishing Boats
  • Hair & Nail Salons
  • Car & Truck Sales
  • Bowling Alleys

Business Consulting

  • I have a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of West Florida. I love businesses. I enjoy looking at what makes a business successful. If you need a 360 degree business review with suggestions for improvement or looking to outsource your office management or accounting, please contact me for further discussion. My charge for this service would vary with the type and size of the business I am reviewing.

Saving costs is a major interest for me, as I like to pay for my services in cost reductions. Finance, operations, employee management, and marketing are all areas where I have learned a few tricks of the trade.

There are no problems. Only Solutions. This is my outlook. After an initial consultation to discuss any concerns and depending on the size of your business, I would spend an adequate amount of time to thoroughly review all facets. After my review, I would create a written report outlining areas which are successful, as well areas in need improvement with advice on how to accomplish this goal.
